Lead Artist – Contract

This is an opportunity for an experienced artist to define the visual identity of a fantasy action-RPG vertical slice built in Unreal Engine 5. The project centers on creating a 15–20 minute demo that will showcase the artistic vision and set the benchmark for quality, targeting presentation to key industry stakeholders. The Lead Artist will be responsible for establishing the art direction, developing the art pipeline, and producing a cohesive suite of high-quality assets. The role offers significant creative freedom and the chance to shape the look and feel of a new fantasy world, with the potential for ongoing collaboration as the project evolves.Responsibilities Define and implement the overall visual style and art direction for the vertical slice, drawing inspiration from leading titles such as Elden Ring and Wuthering Waves Develop and manage the art pipeline, ensuring efficient asset creation and integration within Unreal Engine 5 Create and oversee the production of three hero characters, one boss character, supporting cast, and two distinct environments Collaborate with other team members to ensure visual consistency and technical feasibility Review, critique, and guide the work of other artists as needed to maintain quality standards Deliver all assets on schedule and to the highest standard for presentation to industry partnersSkills And Requirements Minimum 3 years of professional experience in game art, with at least one shipped AA or AAA title Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in both character and environment art, with a focus on stylized fantasy aesthetics Proven ability to set and communicate art direction, including documentation and visual guides Advanced proficiency with Unreal Engine 5 and industry-standard art tools (e.g., Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Suite, Photoshop) Experience working remotely and managing deliverables in a distributed team environment Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently while meeting deadlinesAbout TwineTwine is a leading freelance marketplace connecting top freelancers, consultants, and contractors with companies needing creative and tech expertise.
