Join a high performing legal team working on a range of interesting issuesWork closely with clients to support strategic and operational workFixed Term/Secondment until 30 June 2026 at $132,727 (pro rata)Te whiwhinga mahi - Our opportunityJoining our Tenancy Operations legal team as Legal Counsel, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a mix of policy and operational issues across a range of public law and regulatory issues. This role offers plenty of client contact and will help develop client counselling skills and strategic thinking.The Tenancy Operations legal team works with frontline teams across New Zealand managing around 77,000 tenancies, as well as supporting head office to design and implement best practice guidance and processes. The team also supports a team of Tribunal specialists managing cases in the Tenancy Tribunal. The legal team works on legal operations initiatives to streamline repeat advice, including piloting the use of AI tools, and can offer exposure to this work for anyone interested.The role could be done from Wellington or Auckland (Newmarket office) backfilling a staff member who has taken up and internal secondment.Ngā Pūmanawatanga Ōu - What You Will BringIf you have a good grounding in government legal issues and great analytical and problem-solving skills, then we would love to hear from you.You Will Have The Following Skills And Experience3+ years experience as a lawyer, along with a current practicing certificateAbility to work on legal issues arising from the Residential Tenancies Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, Privacy Act, Building Act, NZBORA and discrimination lawDemonstrated sound judgement particularly in ambiguous situationsNōu te rourou - What's in it for you?
