Job Description

My client, a rapidly growing company in the delivery and logistics sector, is seeking a Legal Director to join its expanding Japan operations.The company holds a significant market share in its home country and is now focused on expanding its presence in Japan.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide legal support on recruiting, HR, employment, and labor matters during the initial years of the role, before expanding into broader business and regulatory areas.Draft, review, and maintain employment contracts, internal policies, and operational guidelines.Negotiate and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements with external partners.Support the launch of new products and services in Japan.Handle litigation, investigations, and other legal disputes that may arise locally.Manage communication with regulatory authorities and ensure compliance with relevant laws.Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as HR, Operations, Compliance, Procurement, and Finance, demonstrating both a hands-on approach and strong project management skills.Instruct and oversee external counsel as needed. QualificationsLicensed attorney qualified ideally in Japan.Over 10 years of post-qualification experience, ideally with both law firm and in-house backgrounds.Native-level Japanese and professional proficiency in English preferred.Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal solutions that balance risk and growth in a fast-paced environment.Curiosity, adaptability, and the willingness to take on new challenges.Strong communication skills and sound professional judgment.Reporting Line :Japan and OverseasCompensationAround 22 - 30M totalAgent's comment :Based on insights from three people I know within the company, its corporate culture tends to be a great fit for many professionals.The role will definitely stretch you, but it also promises to be an extremely rewarding and meaningful experience.
