The ideal candidate is a dynamic journalist who thrives in a fast-paced digital news environment; is organized, and can juggle and prioritize content from multiple desks every shift.
They must be a self-starter, and a team player, who can make important editorial decisions. While the role is mostly Monday to Friday, you will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends to cover events per the needs of the business. The candidate must be legally allowed to work in the US and must be available to regularly come into the New York office. This is not a remote position. Purpose of role:
To help oversee daily, weekly, and monthly output from all the desks by working with reporters and editors to hone articles and ensure we publish world-class stories and exclusives. Key AccountabilitiesPlay a key role in the ongoing development and execution of The U. S.
Sun’s editorial and audience strategy Help oversee each US-based desk (news, entertainment, consumer, sports, motors) to ensure we are the first to break stories and cover brand-building lines Curate the homepage and tailor headlines/imagery for the audience Offer editorial support to audience teams in story distribution and promotion including push notifications and newsletter approval Ensure accuracy and high quality across all The U. S.
Sun platforms including video, pictures, and copy Offer support to desk heads in forward planning and strategy for larger news events Provide regular training to reporters where needed Oversee the running of the website, including making editorial and legal calls, in the absence of the Editor Aid in recruitment and staff members’ career development within the company Edit copy and brief reporters if needed Work flexibly, including some evening and weekend shifts when required Key Skills And ExperienceMust have journalism qualifications and a strong background in news reporting More than five years of senior experience in a digital publishing environment Have experience managing a team A keen understanding of the media within the US legal landscape What We OfferAlong with a competitive salary and excellent benefits including healthcare, vision, dental, and 401(k), the role boasts a generous PTO of 26 days, plus 6 public holidays.
