Join Our Team (Fall to Spring 2025-2026, 10-15 hours per week)Internship SummaryThe Ascension Communications Design Internship Program is designed to provide an on-the-job learning opportunity aimed at gaining "real world" communication design work experience, supporting healthcare workers and patients. The Communications Design Intern will grow in their design, collaboration, and digital comms skills through various work assignments. In addition, the intern may attend department meetings and hospital/healthcare site visits to gain an understanding of information technology and its impact in the healthcare environment.
ObjectiveWe strive to provide a working and learning environment where interns can develop the skills and competencies necessary to grow into successful communications design professionals and potential Ascension associates. Essential FunctionsWork with cross-functional teams in an Agile development model. Participate in team meetings and ceremonies. Support creation of visual design assets including presentation decks, infographics, event collateral, and internal communications materials. Help craft clear and compelling copy and visuals for digital product communications (e. g. , internal websites, emails, digital guides). Assist in the ideation and design of a wide range of communications including software apps and storytelling.
Participate in feedback discussions with users and internal stakeholders to refine concepts. Present designs for critique and feedback to stakeholders and fellow xRD members. Pursue feedback from other teammates (Design, Product, Development). Collaborate with the research and design team to conduct research using various methodologies such as surveys, interviews and usability testing. Partner in synthesizing findings to identify and communicate insights and opportunities for improving digital experiences. Apply brand and editorial guidelines to ensure design consistency across deliverables. Work closely with cross-functional teams including marketers, developers, and content creators to ensure design solutions meet user needs and business objectives.

Additional PreferencesRecently graduated or current degree-seeking major working toward a certification, bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications design, graphic design , interaction design, or related degree with coursework in visual and written communications. We will also consider applicants in non-collegiate design programs and those with previous real-world experience. Familiarity with visual communication tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Google Slides and others. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Passion for design that simplifies and humanizes complex topics.
Interest in storytelling, healthcare, UX writing or digital product environments is a plus. Portfolio (school or personal work accepted) required with application. Detail-oriented with a proactive mindset. Open to feedback and eager to learn. Collaborative and communicative.
