Library Assistant

American International University – Kuwait CityJob Title: Library AssistantClassification: Institutional SupportReports To: LibrarianLocation: Kuwait City, KuwaitJob PurposeThe Library Assistant supports day-to-day library operations and provides responsive and courteous service to students, faculty, and visitors. The role assists users in accessing library resources, maintains organization of physical materials and equipment, and ensures a welcoming and supportive environment that promotes learning and research.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide front-desk support and respond to inquiries in person, by phone, and online regarding library services and resources.Assist users in locating and accessing print and electronic library materials.Perform circulation functions including the issuing, returning, and shelving of library items.Support the organization and maintenance of library collections, including participation in stock management and inventory activities.Monitor library facilities and equipment and report issues to ensure a safe and functional study environment.Follow established administrative procedures including opening/closing duties and confidentiality guidelines.Work evenings or weekends as scheduled to support operational needs.Required Skills And QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or related field (preferred).Strong communication and customer service skills in English (Arabic proficiency is an advantage).Ability to assist users with basic IT tools, online resources, and Microsoft Office applications.Competence in using and applying alphanumeric filing and library systems.Ability to work collaboratively within a team and support a diverse university community.Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of user information.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Studies, or a related field.Previous experience in an academic library setting is an advantage.Familiarity with integrated library systems and electronic databases.About American International UniversityAmerican International University (AIU) is a private institution in Kuwait, founded in 2019, offering undergraduate programs based on the American higher education model.
