Job Description

We are currently looking for a Biological Engineer in Genetics (m/f) for our department “National Center of Genetics”. We offer two permanent positions on a full-time basis (40h/week)About The Laboratoire National De SantéThe LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.

The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities. In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application:

medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens. About The National Center Of Genetics (ncg)The National Center of Genetics (NCG), at the LNS, is responsible for human genetic care in Luxembourg. One of the goals of the NCG is to build up genomic medicine and precision oncology, using a state of the art sequencing facility, and to provide high-level health care to the Luxembourgish population. The NCG is a major stakeholder of two national public health programs:

the Plan National Maladie Rare and the Plan National Cancer.

Your ResponsibilitiesPerform high-complexity molecular genetic testing using next-generation sequencing (NGS), PCR and other molecular techniques;Conduct comprehensive variant analysis including interpretation of pathogenicity, significance, and clinical relevance based on current guidelines;Collaborate with clinical team and laboratory personnel to provide accurate and clinically meaningful genetic results;Develop, validate, and optimize molecular assays for genetic testing;Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and ensure quality assurance and quality control processes are strictly followed;Participate in case review meetings, providing expert insights on variant classification and implications;Analyze complex genomic data, integrate bioinformatics tools, and maintain updated knowledge of gene-disease relationships;Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings for clinicians and patients;Train and mentor laboratory staff;Maintain detailed documentation, support laboratory accreditation (ISO EN 15189) and audits as a subject matter expert.

Your ProfileMaster (MSc) in Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Genomics, or a related field;Experience in genetic variant analysis for diagnostics purposes;Good knowledge of MS Office tools;Good communication skills, ability to work under pressure and manage urgent tasks efficiently;Ability to work in a team, resilience, flexibility and high commitment;Working proficiency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
