Job Description

LuyaOrganic, plant-based and zero additives! This is Luya, the new treat made from okara and chickpeas. Traditionally fermented and pure inspiration for your kitchen. Luya Foods was founded in 2021 with a clear mission: We want to leave the current hype around meat copies behind and create a new, innovative category of plant-based alternatives to meat that are delicious, juicy and natural. Why? Because we are convinced that we need to change the way we eat and use our resources today to save our planet.

R&D Scientist/InternWe are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our food startup as intern with a focus on solid-state fermentation of food products. You are going to work on the conception of new fermented products, carry out fermentation experiments in the lab and give support to the development of food prototypes into finished products. You don’t need to have any industry experience, but passion for scientific research in industry is paramount. Contract duration: initially 6 months with the possibility of conversion into a permanent position.

Unfortunatelly, at this point of our history, Luya cannot sponsor visa-applications for Non-EU/EFTA Nationals. TasksExecute liquid and solid-state fermentation according to experimental plan. Prepare culture media, reagents, and solutions. Assist with equipment ordering, installation and maintenance. Set and maintain databases and stocks. Contribute to keeping the Lab clean, organized, and safe. Record, analyse and interpret results. Write reports and protocols. Share results in the format of presentations. Perform literature review and implement new methods in the lab. Adhere to established Good Laboratory PracticesSupport fermentation scale-up efforts. Perform microbiological tests on food samples. Run sensorial-analysis assessment of new products.

RequirementsMaster’s degree in Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemical Eng. or a related field. You are ambitious and want to pursue a carrier in science. Familiarity using laboratory equipment. Experience in industry is a plus. High failure tolerance. It is hard for you to give up from a project!Adaptable mindset. You can work in short projects and shift priorities constantly. Capacity to interpret results and make correlations with literature data. Excellent organizational skills. You can communicate in English, write reports and give presentations. Knowledge of any programming language is a plus.
