Job Description

Programme Officer, Angola The starting salary package for this position is £35,800 GBP / approx. $49,000 USD including all allowances. About MAGMAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the roleYou’ll play a key role in supporting MAG’s life-saving work in Angola by managing grants, coordinating donor reporting, and strengthening relationships with government and partners. Based in-Luena, with regular travel to Luanda as required, you’ll help shape programme strategy, ensure effective information management, and contribute to planning and evaluation. You’ll also support capacity building and cross-cutting initiatives like safeguarding and inclusion. This role offers the chance to work closely with communities affected by conflict, helping to build safer futures through collaboration and accountability.

Roles are in remote areas, working in challenging contexts away from home comforts, but the life-saving impact the work has on local communities is very real, and rewarding. About youThe postholder will need to have experience developing donor proposals, writing high-quality reports, and working on humanitarian or development projects overseas. You will need to be confident liaising with government and stakeholders, and skilled in project design, budgeting, and research. You will also need to be organised, proactive, and committed to humanitarian principles, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English and in managing administrative tasks is essential.

It’s desirable if you’ve worked in Africa or in Humanitarian Mine Action previously, and have knowledge of institutional donors, safeguarding, and environmental initiatives but not essential. Portuguese language skills would also be advantageous. About the Angola programmeAngola remains one of the most heavily mined countries in the world. MAG has been active in Angola since 1994, clearing landmines and other explosive remnants of war. The programme currently operates in the east of Angola in Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte provinces.

Landmine clearance operations are focussed in Moxico, some of the poorest and most marginalised communities in the country. Our focus is to improve the security and wellbeing of these communities by returning safe land for productive use. We also deliver Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) projects. Further information and how to applyFor the further information on the role, the application pack and details of how to apply, please visit the MAG website at www. maginternational. org/vacancies-at-MAG by the closing date of 31st August 2025.

MAG will support the successful applicant with any visa or work permit required, including application, administration and costs, however applicants will need to be able to obtain these within a reasonable time period to be considered for the role, due to programme needs. Please note that as part of MAG's commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed. For more information on MAG’s approach to safeguarding here and background checks here. You can also find more information in the candidate information pack, available on our website.

MAG is committed to the principles of diversity, equality and inclusion. If you think you would be suited to one of our roles we would welcome your application regardless of your background. We strive to provide an inclusive and supportive working environment where all employees feel respected and supported in fulfilling their potential. Women are encouraged to apply.
