It operates under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Cairns and enjoys collaborative partnerships with Catholic Primary schools in Tully, South Johnstone, Silkwood, Innisfail and Babinda whilst also welcoming students from state and other schools who are seeking a Catholic education for their children and who share our values.The College strives to provide a quality education for the whole person in a safe and nurturing environment where students can grow, emotionally, spiritually, academically and physically.About The RoleThe Maintenance/Groundsperson is responsible for the care and maintenance of the college buildings, grounds, gardens, surrounds and sporting facilities. The incumbent will perform scheduled tasks & action requests from staff via maintenance software. As a member of the Facilities Staff of the college (Grounds, Maintenance and Cleaning Staff), the Maintenance / Groundsperson operates within the Catholic educational environment and culture and will be supportive of the Catholic ethos and Mission of the college. The Maintenance / Groundsperson shall demonstrate a high degree of skill and proficiency in maintaining equipment and carrying out tasks designated by the Facilities Manager. A commitment to work place safety is paramount.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesTypical duties performed may include, but are not limited to:Perform maintenance and operational tasks relevant to the roleWork as a member of the Facilities Team (Work Health and Safety administration, maintenance/grounds and cleaning staff) in the performance of duties, promote a cooperative culture and perform relief duties to cover absencesBe team focused and communicate effectively and professionally with the Facilities Team as well as all members of the school communityMaintenance/repair of College assets as per tasks and requests in Maintenance software or as directed by Facilities Manager or other members of the College Leadership TeamPerform work using hand and power toolsSmall construction work (within scope of training & ability)Paint interiors and exteriors not necessitating a trade qualified painter as requiredMaintain the maintenance workshop in a clean and safe conditionContribute to the work programs set by the Facilities Manager with other members of the Facilities TeamSet up and pack up of furniture and equipment for events/sporting activities/ceremoniesAssist with the movement of college furniture and equipment as requiredAssist with the maintenance of the gardens and grounds – including mowing and edge trimming, watering, plus any task directed by the Facilities ManagerMaintain all walkways and pathways including regular pressure cleaningPerform tasks using good communication and interpersonal skillsAttend to any urgent cleaning issues during the day under the direction of the Facilities Manager where a cleaner is not availableParticipate in professional development and training as directed by the Facilities Manager including annual Work Health and Safety online training and online student protection trainingFollow work health and safety processes to ensure that all work is carried out in an environment where health and safety is paramount.Other tasks as directed by Facilities Manager & College Leadership TeamMaintain appropriate behaviours when engaging with childrenFor further information about the role, please download the Position Description.
