DefinitionUnder general supervision, performs a wide variety of professional, administrative, analytical, and management support functions within the Public Works Department. This position provides support to programs related to solid waste, water policy, utility budgeting, and sustainability initiatives. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and administering assigned program areas, including managing contracts, securing and administering grants, and ensuring compliance with State mandates. Distinguishing CharacteristicsManagement Analyst IThe Management Analyst I is the entry-level classification in the management analyst series that allows the incumbent to develop journey level knowledge and abilities.
Initially, under immediate supervision, incumbents perform the more routine work while learning City policies and procedures. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This classification is distinguished from the next higher level classification of Management Analyst II by the performance of work requiring a lesser degree of administrative, management, and analytical judgment and interpretation. Management Analyst IIThe Management Analyst II is the journey level class in which the incumbent is expected to independently perform the full scope of administrative, analytical, and management support duties within assigned program areas.
This classification is distinguished from the next lower classification of Management Analyst I by the performance of the more difficult and complex assignments and by providing direct supervision to training personnel. Supervision Received/ExercisedManagement Analyst IReceives immediate supervision from higher level department management. Incumbents in this class do not routinely exercise supervision. Management Analyst IIReceives general supervision from higher level department management. Depending on the area of assignment, may exercise direct and indirect supervision over technical and office support staff.
