The Manager of Core Network Infrastructure is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of core networking equipment—including routers, firewalls, and distribution switches—across seven USNH campuses and the statewide IBEAM network, which supports over 40 non-USNH revenue-generating customer sites. This role ensures the reliability, scalability, and security of the network infrastructure that underpins critical academic, research, and administrative services.The manager of network engineering will assume the supervisory duties for the team that is ultimately responsible for the management of core network equipment (router, firewalls, distribution switches etc) across 7 USNH campuses and the statewide IBEAM network consisting of more than 40 non-USNH revenue generating customer sites. The manager will be responsible for developing the teams technology roadmap to include installation, testing, and evaluation of new hardware along with quarterly work forecast to include monitoring and support of existing systems. The position will be responsible for coordinating, communicating, and collaborating with other University and Campus Information Technology teams on strategic and tactical initiatives. The Network Engineer manager will focus on a positive customer experience and seek feedback to guide future planning and design of Infrastructure systems.Key Responsibilities:Infrastructure Management: Lead the planning, deployment, and lifecycle management of core network hardware across all supported sites.Technology Roadmap Development: Define and maintain a forward-looking technology roadmap, including evaluation, testing, and implementation of new hardware and network solutions.Operational Forecasting: Develop and maintain quarterly work plans that include proactive monitoring, maintenance, and support of existing systems.Team Leadership: Guide and mentor a team of network professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate and communicate effectively with University and Campus IT teams to align on strategic initiatives and ensure seamless integration of network services.Customer Engagement: Support external customer sites by ensuring high availability and performance of network services, and by maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of network architecture, configurations, and operational procedures. Establish and maintain strong and positive working relationships with peer departments and vendors to ensure the teams meet service-level agreementsAssists with strategic communications as necessary to develop messaging regarding the status of network services and product updates that affect the USNH customer base.Develops and implements annual goals and strategies for area of responsibility, addresses resourcing needs and regularly assesses and reports on risk in the absence of resources.EngineeringDesign and manage operations network technology to include equipment from vendors various vendors.Plan and execute the deployment of university infrastructure systems and service activities for local and statewide campuses and non USNH customersServing as both an individual contributor and leader on various projects and taskDocument processes and procedures and create KB articles for various systemsEnsure system security and reliability for the state wide network infrastructureMaintain current information regarding software and hardware for relevant computing platforms, network infrastructure, applications, procedures, and techniquesConduct in depth product analysis to determine equipment selection and technology directionIn-depth knowledge of network systems and various routing protocols, Internet Protocols (IPv4 and IPv6), Network Address Translation technologies, Quality of Service, and network routing protocolsMaintain and implement technical solutions, specifications, and documentation for various sized projects or daily support initiativesComplete routine preventative measures, perform upgrades and apply patches as necessary to maintain network securityCreate documentation to include network diagrams, assessment documentation, device configurations and support procedures.Identify, resolve, or escalate incidents to team members and management appropriately to maintain network uptime and customer satisfactionHarden the configuration of devices and networks utilizing best practice with minimal interruptionAnalyze and design global routing and fail-over capabilities including packet analysis, path optimization and load balancing algorithms.Manage Multi-cloud network interconnections (AWS, Azure).Manage, plan and execute network capacity activities including, but not limited to IP address management, bandwidth and device capacity/countBuild, develop and maintain tools that help monitor and identify faults and other events as it relates to the network landscape.Work with various vendors and resellers to keep up-to-date with latest technologies, trends and make sure there is support coverage for all services and devices.Demonstrate vigilance by responding to outages, tuning procedures, and systems, and by taking the initiative and fixing issues before they become service impacting.Performs implementations, configurations, coordination, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage monitoring, and capacity managementSpearhead periodic review of Internet/WAN, Firewalls, DMZ, DNS, NAT, Policies, Routing, and ACLsDesign, maintain and modify IP routing and VLAN typologies as needed Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in network technology, or combination of education and/or experience equal to eight years.
