The secondary platform leverages the strategic advantages of Hamilton Lane’s size and scale to identify and execute attractive secondary opportunities.The Managing Director will play a leadership role in sourcing, securing, and closing secondary transactions, while also contributing to fundraising efforts and supporting corporate objectives through cross-team collaboration. Managing Directors work independently and in partnership with other senior colleagues to identify opportunities and craft strategy, diligence approach, and pricing/negotiation tactics. They play a critical role as a face of the secondary team to external parties such as general partners, sellers, intermediaries, clients, and prospects. They help lead the secondary team by developing team strategy and junior talent, driving the growth and success of Hamilton Lane’s secondary platform.Your Responsibilities Will Be ToConsistently play leadership role across the full life cycle of secondary transactions – crafting strategy, diligence approach, pricing, and negotiation tactics independently and in partnership with other senior secondary team members.Strategically engage intermediaries, general partners, and limited partners to generate secondary deal flow proactively – including driving GP conversations in partnership with colleagues from other investment teams.Effectively manage and guide team resources through the due diligence process, building team consensus and conviction, ensuring efficient use of resources, soliciting senior team and Investment Committee feedback, and testing seller expectations as appropriate.Assume the lead role in the secondary closing process alongside the legal team, providing commercial direction and stepping into negotiation of terms with general partners on key business points.Play cross-functional role across the broader Hamilton Lane platform, including coverage of GP relationships and identifying and sourcing opportunities for other investment teams.Effectively and confidently convey the merits and differentiation of the Hamilton Lane secondary platform in fundraising and other client-facing settings.Take an active role in the career management and mentorship of junior team members, supporting their professional growth and skill development. Mentor and train Vice Presidents and Principals on all the skills listed above.Your Background Will IncludeA minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in private markets, financial services, or professional services, with substantial experience in private equity secondaries and demonstrated leadership of complex transactions.
