Exciting opportunity assisting Pacific Island countries in their efforts to secure market access for fisheries products3-year full-time contract based in Honiara, Solomon Islands with a leading regional agencyTax-free salary of USD $98,459 – $136,307 p.a. incl. location & COLDA allowances (subject to exchange rates)Extensive benefits package including housing, medical, insurance, education, relocation & moreThe Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries AgencyThe Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is an intergovernmental organisation working to strengthen national capacity and regional solidarity so Pacific island countries can manage, control, and develop their valuable tuna fisheries now and into the future.Based in Honiara, Solomon Islands, FFA’s 17 member nations are Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.Since 1979, FFA has facilitated regional cooperation so that all Pacific countries benefit from the sustainable use of tuna – which currently contributes around USD $1 billion per annum to Pacific economies through access revenue and contribution to GDP, and is important for many people’s livelihoods in the Pacific.About the OpportunityThe Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is looking for a full-time Market Access Specialist based in Honiara, Solomon Islands.This role reports to the Director, Fisheries Development, and plays a critical part in helping Pacific Island countries secure and maintain international market access for fisheries products—particularly in compliance with EU and non-EU trade regulations.More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:Assisting member countries in meeting market access requirements for both EU and non-EU marketsSupporting Competent Authorities (CAs) and industry on product development and trade standardsInforming members and FFA leadership of international trade developments impacting fisheriesProviding input into technical advice for trade negotiations and market accessBuilding capacity and technical competencies of CA officers across the regionMaintaining strategic relationships and networks across the fisheries trade ecosystemManaging reporting requirements and related administrative functionsAbout YouTo qualify, you will need tertiary qualifications in Food Science, Engineering, Technology, or a related discipline, along with thorough knowledge of sanitary and phytosanitary standards, export certification, and fisheries trade access regulations.We are looking for a technically competent professional with strong knowledge of market access requirements across global markets, particularly the EU.Candidates with a background in fisheries market products will be highly regarded.Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:Experience with fisheries product marketsTechnical reporting, research and analytical expertiseTraining or capacity-building delivery across culturally diverse communitiesExperience working in remote, developing, or international contextsAbility to travel extensively across Pacific Island nationsAs our ideal candidate, you are an effective communicator and technical expert who thrives in multicultural environments. You possess strong leadership and facilitation skills and are motivated by making a tangible impact in developing regions.Please Note: Previous experience living and/or working in a remote or international location will be highly regarded. There is a significant travel component to this role, and the successful candidate will be required to travel regularly throughout the region.About the BenefitsThis position offers a competitive, tax-free salary of USD $98,459 – $136,307 p.a., inclusive of location and Cost-of-Living Differential Allowances (COLDA).
