Dream big and create the future of mobility at Magna Electronics.Job Responsibilities:What you can expectThe Mechanical/Optical Components Technical Lead will be a key member of the Global Components Group, responsible for supporting engineering teams in defining requirements, assisting purchasing with supplier selection, and collaborating with Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) on component PPAP activities. The scope of components includes, but is not limited to, lenses, housings, covers, connectors, and other mechanical and optical parts.This is a global role that spans multiple product areas and involves collaboration with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including Engineering, Purchasing, Suppliers, SQE, Project Management, and Component Development Teams. The Technical Lead will oversee all technical aspects of component development — from early RFQs and supplier roadmaps to mechanical definition, component selection, sourcing, development, and post-launch support.Collaborate with internal Magna Project Teams to understand product needs and translate them into technical requirementsSupport the RFQ process, gathering, reviewing, and refining engineering requirements to ensure clarity and feasibilityReview and optimize engineering requirements where necessary to achieve cost targetsWork closely with Purchasing and Suppliers to understand future product roadmaps and communicate Magna’s project needs and strategic directionProvide technical support to the purchasing organization, particularly in technologies such as die casting, stamping, injection molding, optical lenses, and filters for automotive applicationsCollaborate with Component Development Teams (Component Program Manager, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality) to ensure alignment across all functionsProvide technical expertise during supplier selection and sourcing processes for mechanical and optical components. This includes generating and clarifying requirements, evaluating supplier responses, and maintaining close interaction with suppliers and internal teams throughout the development lifecycleAct as Component Program Manager (CPM) and Technical Lead in the Magna Component Development Process after sourcing. This includes conducting regular supplier meetings, ensuring fulfillment of technical requirements, and approving supplier PPAP deliverablesProvide technical assessments for supplier change requests related to mechanical componentsWhat You'll BringMechanical Engineering degreePrevious experience in automotive (Preferable)Minimum 10 years of experience in Mechanical developmentPrevious proven experience on a similar positionUnderstanding of Mechanical Architecture & RequirementsKnowledge in design process of enclosures of electronics and camera systems for automotive applicationsKnowledge in manufacturing and manufacturing processes of mechanical components like lenses, housings, connectors, PCB etc.Knowledge in issue resolution and failure analysisKnowledge in drawing creationUnderstanding automotive standardsGeneral hardware knowledgeConfiguration/change management experienceFamiliarity with PPAP process and production releaseExperience in working with global and cross functional teamsFamiliarity with IMDS and REACH is a plusSupplier management skills is a plusKnowledge in optical designs/Characteristics is a PlusWhat We OfferFlexible working hours and hybrid workHealth programs, sports and team eventsAn extensive training program and exciting internal development opportunitiesMeal allowanceAwareness, Unity, Empowerment:At Magna, we believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our success.
