Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the roleThe Head of Product & Development Operations is a senior leader responsible for optimising how product and engineering teams deliver high-quality software efficiently and at scale. This role combines deep expertise in software delivery practices with operational leadership to improve team performance, accelerate delivery, and support sustainable growth. They lead end-to-end delivery operations, overseeing planning, sprint rituals, and workflow management, to ensure teams have clear priorities, well-defined roles, and the right support.
The role champions Agile, DevOps, and continuous integration practices to enhance velocity and quality while managing complexity and technical debt. Owning the quality assurance function, they foster a culture where quality is a shared responsibility. They lead the test function, embed automated testing, and maintain robust quality standards to ensure reliable, customer-focused software delivery. Effective communication is key; the role acts as a liaison across product, engineering, design, business stakeholders, and external partners. They ensure transparency, translate technical details for non-technical audiences, and maintain clear accountability. They also mentor teams to build autonomy and a collaborative culture.
