Job DescriptionTe Haeata/The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced policy professional to lead the Sentencing and Rehabilitation policy team. This is a secondment/fixed-term opportunity, for a period of approximately 12 months. Reporting to the General Manager, Criminal Justice Unit, you will lead the Sentencing and Rehabilitation Team. The Criminal Justice Unit has a broad focus on criminal justice and criminal law developments, both internationally and domestically. The unit focuses on the drivers of crime and reducing offending behaviour, drawing in social policy and justice objectives and focus areas.

The Criminal Justice business unit considers the perspectives of, and works with, a broad range of stakeholders and policy levers beyond legislation and justice sector agencies. The Sentencing and Rehabilitation Team provides advice on how legislative change can support long-term reform of the criminal justice system. The team's work includes the provision of advice in a range of areas including approaches to sentencing (for example, preventative justice laws) and supporting the development of new criminal law and sentencing responses. We work closely with other justice sector agencies including Police, Corrections and Oranga Tamariki.
