Role And PurposeProvide instruction to students in order to develop the skills and ability to excel in chosen area of music. Contribute to music program as a whole and to the individual growth of students involved in music.QualificationsEducation/Certification:Bachelor's degreeValid Texas teaching certificate or eligible for alternative certification ExperienceSuccessful experience as music teacher or participation in an applicable music program Major Responsibilities And DutiesINSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENTUse a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student musician in the program assignedManage and assist music activities, contests and rehearsals to promote individual growth in musical skillsWork with other members of staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall educational development of student musiciansAssist in establishing performance criteria for ensemble and individual competition and evaluate student's musical abilities initially and on a regular basisSignificant knowledge of teaching techniques and procedures Ability to instruct and supervise students at either or both the secondary and elementary level SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATETake all prudent and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilitiesKeep informed of and ensure compliance with all UIL rules and regulationsMonitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participationExcellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills Assist in working with appropriate campus administration to schedule and coordinate events SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENTAssist in developing and maintain an evaluation of the music program and make changes based on assessment ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENTAssist in selection of appropriate equipment and instructional materialsCompile, maintain and file all reports, records, entry forms and other required documentsAssist in maintaining a current inventory of all fixed assets applicable to the programsAssist in overseeing the process of cleaning, repairing and storing all applicable equipment STUDENT MANAGEMENTProperly supervise students during all applicable eventsEstablish and consistently enforce student discipline during performances, rehearsals, contests and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbookEncourage and promote, by instruction and positive example, proper conduct in all phases in contest and performance participationsSCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONSEstablish and maintain open and productive communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators and teachers PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENTActively engage in life-long learning Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone MISCELLANEOUSMaintain emotional control under stressDistrictwide and area wide travel for various performances and contestsFrequent prolonged and irregular hoursPossible outdoor exposure to sun and heat (most applicable to high school band positions).NOTE: In order to minimize current campus disruption, current teachers and classroom assistants may only apply to job postings if the position is a promotion. A promotion is defined by an increase in salary grade or incremental stipend. This does not apply if the transfer window is open.
