About The RoleNational Intermodal has created a new a permanent opportunity for a Manager, Planning Approvals and Environment located in the Melbourne office.

This position will perform a critical role in advancing National Intermodal’s terminal portfolio, with a primary focus on Beveridge and key support for Moorebank projects. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of internal and external professionals, including environmental, urban planning, design, commercial, and legal experts, to ensure project delivery aligns with innovative environmental standards and industry best practices. What You’ll Be DoingAssist in preparing environmental assessments and planning approvals across jurisdictions (e. g. , VIC, NSW, QLD), ensuring compliance with EPBC Act and providing practical advice for timely approvals.

Collaborate with the Delivery team to integrate environmental and planning requirements into construction, aligning with project schedules and budgets. Support tracking of approvals progress, risks, and compliance metrics, resolving issues through cross-functional coordination. Liaise with government departments, councils, and regulators to support approval processes and proactively address potential issues. Assist in preparing consultant briefs and tender documentation, supporting consultant selection and contract management to meet project and statutory requirements. Monitor environmental and planning compliance, contributing to reports on performance against approval conditions and milestones.

Support community consultation with the Government & Stakeholder Relations team, addressing stakeholder concerns and escalating issues as needed. Contribute to innovative planning and environmental solutions, sharing best practices to enhance project outcomes and sustainability. About YouBachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental Science/Management, Town/Urban Planning, or a related discipline. 5+ years’ experience in a similar leadership role with proven delivery experience in securing approvals for major infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of the Victorian planning system and environmental impact assessment requirements; familiarity with NSW planning approvals and environmental impact assessments is desirable.

Knowledge of sustainability requirements for major infrastructure projects is desirable. Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with a proven ability to influence and build lasting relationships. Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills, with a safety-conscious approach and the ability to guide project teams effectively.
