As a Credit Officer, you will be responsible for assessing customer, evaluating, and managing the creditworthiness of loan applicants within the bank’s portfolio and processing relevant paperwork. This position plays a key role in supporting the bank’s lending activities, ensuring that credit decisions align with the bank’s Commercial Credit Policy and are made in a timely, efficient manner. The Officer must have a good understanding of lending procedures and customer service experience. Ultimately, helping our clients acquire loans in a timely manner, while ensuring we comply with the law and related regulations.

The Credit Officer will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of existing loans, identifying potential risks, and collaborating with other departments to maintain a healthy credit portfolio. What You’ll Do: Credit Risk Assessment: Review loan applications. Review applicant financial documents to assess credit risk and determine creditworthiness. Review industry and market trends. Analyze financial statements, create financial spreadsheets, supporting documents, credit reports, and other relevant data to make informed lending decisions, including calculating financial ratios. Contact clients to gather additional financial data when needed and obtain clarifications of the documentation.

Recommend the correct loan structure according to the use of the proceeds and source of repayment. Comply with the deliverables to the credit committee according to SLA’s. Following up with clients about facilities renewals. Collaborate with the business team providing credit-related expertise to facilitate negotiation and loan closing. Credit Decisioning: Recommend to the credit committee for ultimate decisioning (approve, counteroffer or denied loan requests) based on overall analysis assessment of applicants' and ability to repay the facility. Ensure that loan applicants and facilities meet the bank’s Commercial Credit Policy. Ensure proper record-keeping for all credit transactions.

Portfolio Monitoring: Regularly monitor the bank's loan portfolio to detect early signs of delinquency, potential defaults, or changes in credit risk. Conduct periodic reviews of existing clients' financial performance, covenant monitoring, collateral monitoring and repayment status, adjusting credit limits as needed. Negotiate with Borrowers debt restructuring, when needed. Help prepare reports on portfolio performance, highlighting potential risks or opportunities. Expected to assist the commercial team in managing the regularization of the credit. Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all internal policies, regulations, and industry best practices. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of credit industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes.

Assists with the collection of bad debts. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Business Administration or Accounting. Minimum 4 years of working experience in credit analysis, lending, or risk management within a banking or financial institution is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both Spanish and English, in order to support staff from a wide range of functions within the bank (Ex. Risk, Legal Operations, Compliance, etc. ). Desire to work efficiently and to recommend and implement process improvements where necessary. Strong desire to learn, a strong sense of ownership and an excellent work ethic.

Ability to work independently and within a team. High attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure with potentially tight deadlines. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate financial data and identify trends. Experience in advising loan applicants and assessing loan applications. Experience in reviewing financial information, middle market and small loans, interagency classifications, accounting classifications. Goal driven and highly motivated. Candidate must be based in Puerto Rico. Preferred Skills: Professional certifications (e. g. , Risk Management certifications) are a plus. Familiarity with digital banking platforms and automated loan decisioning tools.

Proficiency in financial software, credit analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Knowledge in retail underwriting (Credit Cards and Personal Loans).
