DescriptionJOB SUMMARYLiberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants for Non-Certified Firefighters to work within Fire Services. Applicants must demonstrate a drive to help the public. This is a part-time, on-call position (similar to volunteer status) compensated hourly when responding to calls or attending training. Must participate in Monday night meetings and training.APPLICANTS MUST RESIDE IN LIBERTY COUNTY, GEORGIA.***MAJOR DUTIESResponds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.Assists in extinguishing fires to protect lives, property, and the environment.Participates in search and rescue operations.Responds to hazardous materials incidents.Performs housekeeping, building maintenance, and groundskeeping duties.Drives department vehicles including passenger vehicles and fire apparatus in emergency and non-emergency modes in response to calls for service, normal work requirements, and training.Performs related duties as assigned.TRAINING AND EDUCATIONMust participate in regular training activities and instruction sessions.Must maintain and improve firefighting skills through ongoing training.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.The work is typically performed in a fire station and outdoors and at the scene of emergency incidents. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, inclement weather conditions, fire, heat, and toxic gases. The work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, breathing apparatus, and gloves.RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalent required.No experience required.Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, a valid Georgia driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
