Job Description

Job SummaryThis position is responsible for processing the university’s payrolls for all campuses. MAJOR DUTIESProcesses university payrolls in the State PeopleSoft system. Sets up employee tax deductions, garnishments, child support and other deductions as assigned. Processes terminations and calculates payouts. Processes payroll adjustments required after payroll is completed. Maintains employee payroll records in the state PeopleSoft system. Provides payroll information to employees, departments and external constituents. Distributes, corrects, and reprints W-2s. Sets up direct deposit accounts in the state system. Trains end users in the BANNER payroll system. Supervises the work of assigned student workers.

Performs related duties as assigned. Processes personnel action forms and/or new student employee information. Knowledge Required By The PositionKnowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board guidelines. Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour regulations. Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations. Knowledge of university policies and procedures. Knowledge of payroll processes and procedures. Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Director Human Resources and Payroll assigns work in terms of specific instructions. Spot-checks are performed for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results. These spot-checks are conducted in collaboration with the payroll team lead. GUIDELINESGuidelines include federal and state payroll regulations and laws, Oklahoma Teacher Retirement System guidelines, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThe work consists of related duties in support of the university’s payroll processes.

Strict regulations and guidelines contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to assist in processing university payrolls. Success in this position contributes to the accuracy and efficiency of payroll operations. CONTACTSContacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.

The work is typically performed in an office. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYSupervises work of student workers as assigned. Minimum QualificationsAbility to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of associate’s degree or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with having had a similar position for two to four years. Ability to be bonded. Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
