If you are an unemployed youth between 18 and 30 years old, living in the Northern Cape, this bursary could be your gateway to a brighter future.This bursary initiative is designed for South African citizens who plan to study full-time undergraduate qualifications (first qualification only) at any accredited South African Higher Education Institution (HEI). By supporting academically talented but financially needy students, the Office of the Premier (OTP) ensures that deserving youth have access to quality tertiary education and the chance to develop meaningful careers.Who Can Apply?Applications Are Open ToCurrent Grade 12 learners who plan to start their studies in 2026.Youth who have completed Grade 12 but are not yet enrolled at a tertiary institution.Students currently enrolled at a recognised university or higher education institution.Although the bursary is open to all disciplines, preference will be given to students pursuing qualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields — areas critical to the province’s long-term economic and social development.Selection CriteriaThe recruitment and selection process will be guided by the following requirements:A completed bursary application form accompanied by all supporting documents (as indicated on the OTP checklist).Applicants must be South African citizens permanently residing in the Northern Cape.Proof of application or acceptance at a registered Higher Education Institution must be submitted.The chosen field of study should align with scarce, critical, and hard-to-fill positions within the province.Preference will be given to candidates pursuing STEM-related qualifications.Additional Considerations IncludeRace, gender, and geographic distribution across districts.Persons with disabilities will receive priority consideration.Academic performance and potential for success.Demonstrated financial need, based on combined household income.Bursary AwardsThe bursary value is determined by the applicant’s household income, ensuring fairness and accessibility for all qualifying students:Combined Household Income Bursary Award R0 – R350 000 R120 000 R350 001 – R550 000 R100 000 R550 001 – R800 000 R80 000Successful candidates will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the Office of the Premier.
