Where you'll be workingHornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a major metropolitan teaching hospital. Patients can access a range of services including coronary care, intensive care, orthopaedics, general medicine, surgical, obstetric, respiratory, rehabilitation, paediatric, maternity and emergency care. The hospital also provides a wide range of outpatient services including allied health, dental and podiatry clinics, child, adolescent and family health, drug and alcohol, health promotion and rehabilitation and aged care.
An acute mental health service is co-located at Hornsby Hospital. The new $265 million Stage 2 redevelopment was officially opened in June 2022. For more information https: //www. nslhd. health. nsw. gov. au/Hornsby/Pages/default. aspxWhat You'll Be DoingThe primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of Emergency patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the doctor's skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patientmanagement according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate AttendingMedical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of aspecialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialistresponsible for that care.
Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the roleAdvanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or servicesAdvanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertiseAdvanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiencesAdvanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environmentCommitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of emergency medicineDemonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
