Terms of Reference – Nutrition Specialist Position Title: Nutrition SpecialistDuty Station: Port Sudan/Khartoum (with travel to SAPA-supported sites as security allows)Reports to: Country Programs ManagerContract Type: Full-time staffDuration: 12 months1. BackgroundSudan faces high rates of acute malnutrition, worsened by conflict, displacement, and food insecurity. SAPA, in line with the FMoH Nutrition Department, UNICEF, and WFP, delivers nutrition services including Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E), and preventive programs. Timely reporting, documentation, and integration into emergency preparedness are essential for advocacy and decision-making. 2.
Purpose of the RoleTo ensure quality implementation of nutrition interventions, strengthen monitoring and reporting systems, and contribute to emergency preparedness and response (EPR) through situation updates, bulletins, and technical publications. 3. Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Implementation & Technical SupportSupport facility- and community-level implementation of CMAM (OTP, TSFP, SC referrals). Provide technical oversight for IYCF counseling and maternal nutrition services. Integrate nutrition with health, immunization, and WASH programs. Commodity & Pipeline ManagementMonitor stock levels of RUTF, RUSF, MNPs, and therapeutic milks (F75/F100). Submit monthly pipeline reports to MoH, UNICEF, and WFP.
Monitoring, Evaluation & ReportingEnsure timely collection of CMAM data (cure, death, default rates). Validate data accuracy through supervision visits. Lead SAPA-related SMART surveys, MUAC screenings, and IPC AMN classification processes. Documentation & Knowledge ProductsProduce monthly nutrition updates and bulletins for SAPA and MoH. Contribute to quarterly briefs/publications on nutrition trends, IPC AMN outcomes, and emergency response. Draft case studies and success stories for advocacy and donor visibility. Prepare nutrition sections for donor reports (UNICEF, WFP, USAID, ECHO). Capacity Building & CoordinationTrain facility staff and CHWs on CMAM, IYCF, and data management.
Participate in Nutrition Cluster and MoH coordination meetings, providing inputs on SAPA’s emergency response. 4. Technical Deliverables & KPIs≥90% of nutrition reports submitted on time to MoH/UNICEF/WFP with
