Job Summary: The Occupational Health Nurse ensures the health, safety, and regulatory compliance of associates within a medical device manufacturing environment. This role manages occupational health programs, provides clinical evaluation and early intervention for workplace injuries and illnesses, and oversees medical surveillance and health screening initiatives. Responsible for accurate recordkeeping and adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, this position supports regulatory processes and non-occupational licensure requirements. The incumbent collaborates with associates, leadership, and cross-functional teams to promote return-to-work programs, maintain workplace wellness, and foster a safe and compliant work environment, supporting operations at TPR1 and TPR2 facilities.Job Details: Job Details should outline the essential functions of the role (five to seven). Main Responsibilities% of RoleClinical Evaluation and Early Intervention -Provide & assess and care for associates reporting work-related or non-occupational symptoms, including coordinating with external medical providers and internal stakeholders to ensure timely intervention and continuity of care.20%Medical and Regulatory Records – Manage & maintain accurate electronic medical records and health documentation in the EHS platform, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, FDA, and other applicable regulations. Track medical surveillance, vaccinations, screenings, and follow-up actions.15%Occupational Health Programs - Administer and document medical surveillance programs (e.g., respiratory protection, hearing conservation, vision and audiology testing, fleet safety) and preventive care initiatives, ensuring baseline and threshold changes are tracked and required follow-ups are completed.15%Case Management and Return-to-Work Processes - Actively participate in case management discussions, facilitate post-injury/illness follow-up, support safe return-to-work and job accommodations, and coordinate specialist evaluations and external providers. Actively work with the Medical cases Committee to ensure license management is appropriate.15%Health & Safety Initiatives - Serve as First Aid Team leader, coordinate emergency response and team meetings, support site EHS committee activities, training initiatives, ergonomic monitoring, and wellness programs to promote workplace health and safety culture.15%Regulatory Compliance and Reporting - Assist with OSHA injury and illness reporting, State Insurance Fund cases, and documentation of occupational exposure incidents (bloodborne pathogens, chemical exposure, ergonomic incidents) while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.10%Operational Support and Collaboration - Collaborate with HR and other departments on non-occupational medical matters, fit-for-duty assessments, associate licensure requirements, lactation room compliance, and medical supply management to maintain operational readiness and workplace health standards. Other related duties may be assigned.10%Incumbent must follow all established Environmental Health & Safety and Quality System policies, programs, rules and practices, including but not limited to product and patient safety, the health and safety of all associates as well as the environment and community at large.Organizational Impact: Influences workforce health and safety across TPR1 and TPR2 facilities, ensuring associates remain fit-for-duty and supported in both occupational and non-occupational medical matters.Drives compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, EPA, FDA, and other regulatory requirements, reducing organizational risk and supporting audit readiness.Collaborates with HR, leadership, and cross-functional teams to implement health, wellness, and return-to-work programs that minimize lost work time and operational disruptions.Contributes to departmental performance metrics, including the site EHS Index, preventive care initiatives, and safety culture, enhancing overall workforce productivity and organizational resilience.Communication & Influence: Communicates health, safety, and regulatory information to associates and supervisors; ensures understanding and compliance with workplace policies.Advises leadership and HR on employee medical restrictions, accommodations, and return-to-work decisions; influences operational planning and workforce management.Coordinates with external healthcare providers and internal stakeholders to ensure timely clinical interventions, negotiate treatment plans, and maintain continuity of care.Reports occupational health data, program outcomes, and compliance updates to senior leadership; provides recommendations that impact safety initiatives and operational decisions.Innovation & Complexity: Assesses complex workplace health situations and determines appropriate clinical interventions, often with limited guidance or precedent.Develops and improves occupational health programs, such as medical surveillance, wellness initiatives, and return-to-work processes, to enhance employee safety and operational efficiency.Analyzes trends in workplace injuries, illnesses, and regulatory compliance data to identify opportunities for process improvements and preventive strategies.Manages unexpected or ambiguous cases, coordinating with cross-functional teams and external providers to create solutions that balance employee health, regulatory requirements, and business needs.Leadership & Autonomy: Leads the First Aid and emergency response teams; coaches and mentors team members on workplace health and safety practices.Provides guidance and support to supervisors and HR on return-to-work, medical restrictions, and accommodations, influencing decisions without direct authority over staff.Operates independently in managing clinical cases, medical surveillance programs, and regulatory compliance, making decisions that impact employee health and operational continuity.Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement health initiatives and process improvements, taking initiative to solve problems and drive outcomes with minimal supervision.Position Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Professional Expertise: Experienced occupational health professional with proven ability to manage and administer occupational health programs within a medical device manufacturing or similar regulated environment.Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA, DOL, HIPAA, State Insurance Fund, SINOT, and other applicable occupational health and safety regulations.Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases) and electronic health record or EHS systems to maintain accurate and compliant documentation.Organizational Ability: Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities within a structured, document-controlled environment.Confidentiality & Ethics: Maintains high standards of confidentiality when handling sensitive and protected health information (PHI), fully compliant with legal and company requirements.Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication in both Spanish and English; able to interact with associates, management, and external healthcare professionals in a clear and professional manner.Judgment & Independence: Exercises sound clinical and professional judgment in resolving occupational health issues; works independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.Work Environment: Onsite position requiring presence at manufacturing facilities to provide direct occupational health support.Background Experiences: Education & Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) with active professional licensure in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; board certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN/COHN-S) or equivalent preferred.Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in occupational health, employee wellness, or clinical nursing within a manufacturing or similarly regulated environment.Certifications: Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required.Preferred Expertise: Experience managing medical surveillance programs, case management, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, HIPAA, FDA, or equivalent).
