Job DetailsJob Location: Main Campus - Milledgeville, GAPosition Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolSalary Range: UndisclosedTravel Percentage: Up to 25%DescriptionGeorgia Military College is now accepting applications for a Campus Police Officer. The position of Police Officer is a regular, and/or special detail position, providing general law enforcement and service related duties for the Georgia Military College community. To perform these duties, employees in this position must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, certification as a peace officer, pursuant to the rules of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council Work involves knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, in addition to policies and procedures of Georgia Military College, and the department of Public Safety. Employees assigned to this position must be able to demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making within the limits prescribed by laws, rules, regulation, policies, and procedures. Work requires dedication to public service, which is often accompanied by emotional and/or physical stress from rapidly evolving events. The employee must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds.Primary ResponsibilitiesConduct routine vehicle, foot, and alternative patrol of Georgia Military College properties, and the surrounding area pursuant to statutory jurisdictions. Such patrol shall facilitate the detection and deterrence of crime, criminal activity, and suspicious activity for Georgia Military College properties. Enforces State Laws and local OrdinancesChecks the physical security of campus facilities to prevent theft and vandalism. Uses Probe for Documentation of Security Checks.Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities.Review facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statute violations were involved, by interviewing witnesses and victims gathering information and evidence and securing crime scenes. Testifies in court.Monitor traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe driving procedures. Issue citations or warnings to violators of motor vehicle ordinancesAnnual Salary: $45,000.00Criminal background check and drug screen must be cleared before any candidate may begin working.Georgia Military College is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.QualificationsMinimum RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GEDPOST Certification required in the Basic Law Enforcement Training CourseAbility to multi-task various duties at one timeThe ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, including for the purposes of emergency responseThe ability to walk, run, jump, navigate a variety of terrains, and sit or stand for prolonged periods of timeThe ability to perform arrests, forcibly, if necessary and reasonable, requiring proficiency in the use of handcuffs, other physical restraints, defensive tactics, less lethal and intermediate weapons, and firearmsThe ability to handle situations firmly, courteously and tactfully, with respect for the rights of othersThe ability to physically check buildings, and lock or unlock facilities as needed to support the operations of the universityThe ability to develop and maintain positive police-community relationsThe ability to speak about crime prevention, awareness, and education to a variety of campus audiencesThe ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency conditionsThe ability to perform rescue and evacuation functions during accidents, emergencies, and disasters, to include traffic control and direction, removing persons from dangerous situations, and facilitating the evacuation of campus facilitiesThe ability to use radio systems to dispatch and receive calls for serviceKnowledge of relevant federal and state laws, campus regulations, and college policies and procedures.Knowledge of standard police practices and techniquesKnowledge of College properties, buildings, population, and theKnowledge and understanding of departmental policies and procedures * Knowledge of fire prevention and suppression techniques * Knowledge of case law governing law enforcement tactics and the use of force * Knowledge of criminal procedure, search and seizure, and rules of evidence, responding to emergency situations. * Skill in oral and written communication. * Skill in administering first aid and CPR techniques. * Skill in operating a patrol vehicle and various emergency and communications equipment.Preferred RequirementsAssociates Degree in Criminal Justice Field1 year Experience as Police Officer
