About This OpportunityOpen House Hobart is held on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November 2024. This year we are also hosting a Day on the Domain on Sunday 3 November 2024.The program offers a behind-the-scenes look at Hobart’s built environment and is a key part of the Australian Institute of Architects public advocacy program.Open House Hobart encourages a greater understanding of the value of good design and the inner workings of a city. The program offers free public experiences, including open buildings (often not publicly accessible), walks and talks led by architects, designers, historians and in-the-know locals. Participants are invited to be a tourist in the city, share buildings and spaces, take a peek at how others live, work and play, and see how the city’s infrastructure works.Additional RequirementsSince its inauguration in 2013, Open House Hobart (OHH) has quickly grown to become one of Hobart’s most widely attended architecture events. OHH has opened the doors to incredible buildings and sites across the city and surrounds. We offer an extraordinary opportunity to experience the city and meet the people who design, build and preserve Hobart. None of this would be possible without our passionate volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of the OHH model. Without your generous support, our programs could not run. The public’s primary interaction with OHH is you! Your passion and enthusiasm for the program ensure a successful day for all. OHH volunteers are vital for ensuring visitors have the best possible experience by providing building access, tour guidance and answering questions. Responsibilities OHH volunteers are assigned to one of the program sites or tours and provide support by welcoming visitors from around Hobart, Tasmania and the world and are acting representatives of Open House Hobart. What do volunteers do? Usually, volunteers work one three-hour shift at one of our participating sites and may help out with any of the following: Greeting visitors Checking off attendance Directing visitors to specific areas Answering general questions about the site and the program Managing lines Counting visitor numbers and taking down postcodes or country codes Being on-call to assist with last-minute changes during their three-hour shift All OHH volunteers must abide by our Volunteer Code of Conduct. What is the time commitment to volunteer? All OHH volunteers will: Attend a required 60-minute orientation session via Zoom. Complete at least one volunteer shift on Saturday and/or Sunday of OHH Weekend, November 9 - 10, 2024, and/or Sunday 3 November 2024.
