S/He will report to the head of the humanities department.This position is within the College of Arts and Sciences' Humanities Department and reports to the Head of the Department. The faculty members will be responsible for teaching courses in literature, linguistics, discourse analysis, composition, and rhetoric. The ideal candidate will have expertise in discourse analysis, advanced literacy, and composition studies. Teaching experience in the Middle East is desirable.Internationally recognized qualifications, particularly from institutions in the U.S., U.K., Australia, or other comparable education systems, are preferred.Job Location: AUIB Campus, Airport Road, Baghdad, Iraq.Key Responsibility:Areas of Accountability: Main ActivitiesThe right candidate should be able to:Teach undergraduate courses in linguistics, including discourse analysis, literature, and college composition.Teach other core liberal arts courses as suited to qualifications.Develop and update course materials and curricula to align with university and departmental goals.Participate in departmental meetings and academic planning activities.Conduct research and contribute to scholarly publications in linguistics, literature, composition, or rhetoric.Provide student advising and mentoring, as needed.Engage in service activities such as assisting with registration, organizing seminars, and supporting professional development initiatives.Uphold ethical standards and create a positive and inclusive learning environmentJOB Qualifications Minimum:A: Education:M.A. or Ph.D. in one or more of the following fields: English Literature, Writing, Rhetoric, Communications, Public Speaking, Humanities, or related disciplines.B: Experience: Years/Type of Work Experience:A minimum of one year of teaching experienceWork experience in the Middle East/or study abroad in any of the regional programs.D: Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) :Understanding of American Higher Education: Familiarity with the structure and processes of the American university system.Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Time Management and Collaboration: Ability to manage time effectively and work well with others.Student Engagement: Skill in engaging and supervising students.Effective Teaching: Capable of simplifying complex ideas, creating engaging lectures, and fostering active learning.Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changes in education and technology without sacrificing quality.Professional Ethics: Commitment to maintaining high teaching and professional conduct standards.Application Procedure: Application Requirements for Positions at the American University of Iraq—BaghdadTo be considered for any role at the American University of Iraq—Baghdad (AUIB), applicants are required to submit the following documents:Cover letter: This should detail how your skills and experience align with the specific requirements of the position you are applying for.Resume/Curriculum Vitae: Please provide an up-to-date resume or curriculum vitaeIdentification: A valid national ID or passport is required for the application process.For Faculty vacancies, the application needs to include Teaching Philosophy (1 page max) and Research Statement (2 pages max) Please note that applications missing any of these components will not be considered.Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email and WhatsApp to schedule interviews.
