Role : Open Source Contributor (Remote)Employment Type: Independent Contractor (Hourly)Location: RemoteCompensation: $50 – $85 per hourRole OverviewWe are seeking experienced Rust developers with a strong track record of open-source contributions to join a global network of engineers supporting projects in AI, data systems, and high-performance infrastructure.This role is ideal for developers who are passionate about systems programming, performance optimization, memory safety, and building reliable software using Rust.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign challenging coding problems with clear input/output specifications, constraints, and function signaturesDevelop complete mini-repositories, including:Problem statementsReference solutionsComprehensive unit tests (10–20 cases)Executable test runnersImplement clean, production-quality Rust code aligned with test expectationsWrite high-coverage tests covering edge cases, invalid inputs, concurrency issues, and performance constraintsEnsure projects are fully executable with no dependency issues, borrow checker violations, or build configuration problemsFollow best practices for version control and collaborative developmentRequired Qualifications3–6 years of professional software development experience, including strong experience with RustDeep understanding of Rust fundamentals, including:OwnershipBorrowingLifetimesTrait-based designExperience building backend services using frameworks such as:Actix WebAxumRocketor similar Rust frameworksExperience with async programming using Tokio or async/awaitFamiliarity with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDBExperience writing unit and integration tests using Rust’s testing frameworkFamiliarity with Cargo, Docker, and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions)Strong understanding of memory safety, concurrency models, and performance optimizationComfortable working with Git-based collaboration (pull requests, issues, code reviews)Role DetailsWork Type: Remote, contract engagementTime Commitment: Approximately 10–20 hours per weekOpportunity to contribute to high-impact infrastructure and systems projectsContract & Engagement DetailsIndependent contractor engagementFlexible work scheduleWeekly payments based on completed workProject duration may be extended or shortened depending on performance and project needsEqual Opportunity StatementAll qualified applicants will be considered without regard to legally protected characteristics.
