PORTWEST, a leading global manufacturer of safety wear, workwear and PPE is currently seeking applications for the position of Operations Manager, initially training in our Eastport location and rotating between Bangladesh, Myanmar and Tanzania based on company needs. The successful candidate will be hired on a contract of 1 year, with the opportunity of extension/ permanency after 1 year of employment, reporting to the Group Garment Production Manager. We’re on a mission to become the world’s most requested PPE and Safety Wear Brand.Job SummaryThe Manager of Operations will oversee and manage the daily operations of the apparel manufacturing facility. The role requires ensuring that production targets are achieved with efficiency, cost-effectiveness, quality, and compliance to company policies and international standards. The position also involves coordinating across departments, developing systems, and building strong teams to meet the company’s business goals.Key Responsibilities. Production & Operations ManagementPlan, monitor, and manage the end-to-end production process across all lines.Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.Optimize factory operations by improving line balancing, operator efficiency, and resource allocation.Monitor and control cost of production while maintaining high quality standards. Process Development & Efficiency ImprovementImplement lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement practices.Develop and oversee SOPs for each department.Work closely with IE (Industrial Engineering) team to improve SMV, efficiency, and productivity. Quality & ComplianceEnsure adherence to customer quality standards and internal QA procedures.Coordinate with QA and Compliance teams to meet international buyer audits and certifications.Drive zero-defect policy through training and monitoring. People & Team ManagementLead, guide, and motivate department heads (Production, Cutting, IE, Maintenance, HR, etc.).Monitor workforce training and skill development programs.Support succession planning and ensure proper manpower utilization. Factory Infrastructure & MaintenanceOversee factory utilities, machinery, and equipment maintenance.Ensure smooth functioning of cutting, sewing, finishing, and packing sections.Coordinate with IT/ERP teams for digital reporting and production monitoring. Planning & ReportingWork with Planning and Merchandising teams to align factory capacity with orders.Ensure timely production according to buyer delivery timelines.Provide accurate weekly and monthly reports on factory performance, challenges, and opportunities.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Textile Engineering, Garment Manufacturing, or related field (Master’s preferred).8–12 years of progressive experience in garment/apparel manufacturing, with at least 3 years in an operations management role.Strong knowledge of production planning, IE, line balancing, and lean manufacturing tools.Familiarity with ERP/production tracking systems (Odoo, FastReact, GPRO, etc. is an advantage).Proven leadership, people management, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).Company AwardsGreat Place To Work 2024 Private Irish Business of the year – Export Industry Awards 2024 Silver Ecovadis Sustainability Rating 2025Applicants must have a right to live and work in the relevant jurisdiction.Portwest is an equal opportunity employer.
