Organization DescriptionPAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. PAVE provides a K-8 experience that lays the foundation for a productive and choice-filled life. We build our students brick by brick, equipping them with the academic, social, and emotional skills that they need to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, overcomers and leaders in their communities. PAVE educates 490 Kindergarten – 8th-grade scholars each school year. Across our student population, 82 percent of our students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP); 17 percent receive special education services, and 10 percent are English Language Learners (ELL).

Opportunity SummaryPAVE Red Hook seeks Elementary Science teachers. Teachers will instruct Science classes for either Kindergarten-2nd or 3rd-4th grade. In addition, all PAVE teachers will implement PAVE’s curriculum and assessment programs.

How You’ll ContributeEmbody, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of PAVECreate and sustain a positive and highly structured school culture of high academic and behavioral expectationsDeliver and implement rigorous instruction utilizing the AMPLIFY curriculum to meet proficiency of the NYSE Science Grade 5 ExamAssume responsibility for the academic progress of students with a high sense of urgency and ownership towards quantifiable resultsUse assessments and data to track student proficiency across science standardsCommunicate effectively and regularly with students and parents about student progressMaintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues in an environment where listening, critical thought, respectful debate, and compromise is welcomed and essentialCommit to continued professional growth and active participation in PAVE professional developmentComplete all lesson plans, progress reports, report cards, and administrative functions with care and timelinessHelp students develop the skills and strategies for scientific problem solvingLead students through discourse in scientific philosophy - explain the benefits and risks of scientific discoveries using historical and emerging examplesHelp students understand the concepts that underlie individual scientific facts and perspectivesAssist students in developing and applying an objective inquiry-driven mindsetEnthusiastically participate in collaborative co-curricular and extracurricular teams; draw students into these projectsBe open to receive teaching feedback and support from teaching partners and administrationEngage in professional development on a planned and ad hoc basisPromote the school culture and practices, as well as instructional strategies and student rules through extracurricular and co-curricular activities and staff leadership i.
