The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is seeking candidates for the position of Payroll Specialist 1. This position reports to the Fiscal Operations Manager or Accounting Supervisor and will be housed in DFCS Regional Accounting Unit. JOIN OUR TEAM!!! Pay Grade: HUnder supervision, accountable for the payroll function and related programs or processes. Consults with government entities, third-party payroll companies and employees. Interprets organizational policy and government regulations and oversees technical support, customer support and problem resolution.Job ResponsibilitiesVerify check register are in sequential order, and research any missing numbers and provide explanation on registers.Provide Customer Service to all individuals requesting admittance to the Accounting officesDaily by NOON, stamp all pieces of incoming mail and verify it against the county’s batch sheets and then distribute to the appropriate staff for processingDaily by 1pm, ensure that Direct Deposit has been verified for vendor and monetary accuracy and submitted to SMI for processingBy COB each day, ensure that all checks have been verified for vendor and monetary accuracy before the checks are mailedDaily, ensure that all Direct Deposit and Checks along with their supporting documentation is filedDaily, ensure that a copy of all Direct Deposit or Checks documentation where Restricted Fund accounts were used is placed in the appropriate child’s fileMaintain the copier machines, postage machine, and fax machines and report any issues to the supervisor to determine if maintenance is requiredEnsure the copier machines always have paper in them, and that the postage machine has adequate balances for mailing out paymentsEnsure that all filing is done for all staff monthlyEnsure that all shredding is done for all staff monthlyEnsure that the office supplies are maintained and ordered according to policyEnsure that the Inventory is updated for the Regional Accounting officeMaintain a log for all in-house checks pickup and distribute to employees according to policyGo to Post office and pick up and drop off mail dailyDrop off bank deposits as neededAssociate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; or Two (2) years of payroll/accounting job-related experienceFor more detailed information about the Georgia Department Human Services https://dhs.georgia.gov/Employment InformationCurrent State employees are subject to State Personnel Board (SPB) Rules regarding salary.DHS is an Equal Opportunity EmployerIf you require accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), email the request by the closing date of this announcement to: hrhelpline@dhs.ga.gov.The candidate selected for this position may be subject to pre-employment drug screening, education verification, reference, motor vehicle records, and criminal background checks.DHS accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.
