University: University of OsloCountry: NorwayDeadline: 8/10/2025Fields: Geotechnical Engineering, Oceanography, Marine Biology, Environmental Engineering, Climate ScienceThe Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), in collaboration with the University of Oslo (UiO), invites applications for a fully funded PhD position (Doctoral Candidate DC04) as part of the BETTER project, a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network. The focus of this position is on offshore geohazards and their impact on offshore wind farm (OWF) infrastructure in a changing climate.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary European research consortium and benefit from comprehensive training, international supervision, and research secondments. Key Responsibilities– Conduct observation-based and probabilistic analyses of geohazard impacts on OWF infrastructure under various climate scenarios. – Integrate data from monitoring, numerical modelling, and uncertainty quantification. – Assess changes in submarine gravity mass flows, sediment mobility, and seabed morphology due to climate change. – Contribute to risk mitigation strategies for resilient offshore wind infrastructure. – Participate in research visits with BETTER consortium partners and network-wide training activities.

Requirements– Master’s degree (minimum 4 years, or equivalent) in continuum or fluid mechanics, oceanography, meteorology, physics, geophysics, climate change, engineering, or related fields. – Strong academic record (Bachelor’s average grade C or better; Master’s courses and thesis grade B or better, based on Norwegian grading). – Demonstrated fluency in spoken and written English. – Experience in oceanography, meteorology, numerical modelling, scripting (e. g. , Python, C++, Fortran, Linux), or climate adaptation is an asset. – Less than 4 years of research experience and no prior doctoral degree at the time of recruitment. – Mobility requirement:

Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Norway for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to recruitment.
