These positions offer a unique opportunity to engage in research at the intersection of wildlife ecology, big data analytics, and conservation biology. Research Themes Include– Long-term fieldwork on red squirrels in the Yukon, focusing on behavioural ecology and demographic consequences of movement.
– Large-scale meta-analyses on ecological or evolutionary topics of your choice, such as dispersal, behaviour, climate resilience, or conservation interventions. – Analysis of global wildlife tracking datasets (over 14 billion locations from 1,500+ species) to develop predictive models of animal responses to environmental change, with training in R, spatial analysis, and ecological modelling. Requirements– BSc and research experience in biology (e. g. , ecology, evolution, environmental sciences), statistics, mathematics, computer science, natural resources, or related fields. – For MSc: Minimum 3. 0/4. 3 GPA and admissibility to the Biology Department. – For PhD: Completed MSc or minimum 4. 0/4. 3 GPA in BSc.
– Experience with data analysis in R, Python, or similar languages is an asset. – Strong science communication skills and comfort presenting to diverse audiences. – Interest in working with Indigenous communities, government agencies, or other partners is valued. – Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is encouraged. – Knowledge of French is not required; English theses are permitted. Compensation– MSc: Minimum $20,000 CAD per year for 2 years. – PhD: Minimum $25,000 CAD per year for 4 years. – Tuition waivers are available for international students; net salary will be adjusted to cover tuition.
