University: University of AntwerpCountry: BelgiumDeadline: July 14, 2025Fields: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Bio-Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemical BiologyThe Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences within the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Antwerp invites applications for a full-time Graduate Teaching & Research Assistant position in the field of Medicinal Chemistry and/or Chemical Biology. As a member of the Academic Assistant Staff, the successful candidate will dedicate at least 50% of their time to preparing a PhD thesis.

The research project will focus on the development of inhaled ferroptosis inhibitors as a novel therapeutic strategy for lung infections, targeting key pathogens such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Streptococcus pneumoniae. The project combines medicinal chemistry and chemical biology to optimize inhibitors for inhalation therapy and to elucidate their mechanisms of action in infection models. Responsibilities– Conduct independent research leading to the preparation and defense of a PhD thesis. – Participate in the doctoral study program at the Antwerp Doctoral School. – Present research findings at academic conferences and publish results in scientific journals.

– Assist in teaching, research, and service activities within the department. – Regularly report on research progress. Requirements– Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Bio-Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, to be obtained by the start date. – Strong academic record. – Research and teaching competencies aligned with the University of Antwerp’s standards. – Motivation for professional development. – Demonstrated qualities of integrity, creativity, quality, and cooperation.
