Join us on this shared journey toward a brighter tomorrow.Job PurposeThe Plant Manager role encompasses diverse responsibilities in leading and managing the plant as a reporting unit within a business unit. This entails overseeing the total P&L of the operation, sales, pricing, program management, and production for complete product lines, ensuring customer delivery and satisfaction. The Plant Manager is also tasked with planning and executing a profitable growth strategy.In addition to P&L and growth responsibilities, the Plant Manager plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This involves driving and implementing improvements for plant processes, quality, cost reduction, lean practices, and launch activities.This role requires collaboration with matrix support, involving R&D, applications engineering, human resources, purchasing, finance, and risk management, among other functions. As a key business leader, the Plant Manager must balance local accountability with global functions to define the best business outcomes. Effective motivation for a high-performance, self-directed staff that collaborates well with other global reporting units and functions is essential. Focus on operating effectiveness and efficiency is vital for achieving near-term goals to improve plant financial performance.Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Facility Management:Manage all aspects of a stand-alone production facility, including production strategy, plant engineering, manufacturing engineering, human resources, finance, compliance, purchasing, logistics, and quality. Secure new business, determine product pricing, provide sales support, and fund new product development. Manage the P&L including financial forecasting methods with income statement, balance sheet and cash flow. Safety and Sustainability:Drive a culture of safety within the company's operations to improve working conditions, minimize downtime, reduce injuries, and enhance worker morale. Collaborate with leaders in global sourcing, inventory management, logistics, and warehousing to implement forward-thinking improvements. Cross-Functional Collaboration:Foster best practices between sales, engineering, and manufacturing to enhance visibility to sales forecasts, improving production planning, purchasing, and supply chain practices. Lean Practices and Operational Excellence:Lead, coach, and implement enterprise-wide lean practices and operational excellence programs to enhance productivity, quality, working capital utilization, and manufacturing profitability. Maximize synergies between manufacturing operations and demand flow to reduce costs, eliminate redundancies, and improve processes and product flow. Quality Focus:Empower all functional members to implement quality practices and procedures into all aspects of operations. Drive an operational focus on first-time quality. Compliance and Employee Relations:Ensure operations-wide compliance with all Corporate, local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain positive employee relationships with the workforce. Talent Development and Leadership:Grow and place the right talent, ensuring development and creating a strong bench strength of leaders. Emphasize sound business and operations processes, building strong, collaborative teams between local and global operations and functional teams. Education An undergraduate degree in business or engineering is required. An MBA or advanced engineering degree is preferred.ExperienceA minimum of 15 years of experience in roles of increasing responsibility and scope in a manufacturing environment, including experience in two functional roles with one in operations, ideally with a Tier I automotive supplier. The most important aspects include:Operations experience demonstrating both leadership and management resulting in strong operational performance and a highly engaged workforce and positive culture. Significant business expansion or new product program introduction and launch experience in a plant environment. Financial acumen and experience with managing a P&L is essential; experience with financial forecasting methods and with income statement, balance sheet and cash flow. An understanding of quality, speed, delivery, service, efficiency and effectiveness demands coming from sophisticated customers who have a deep focus on supply chain management. Automotive Tier I supplier experience is the most applicable to this requirement. A strong understanding of advanced manufacturing techniques that should include both product and process design tools prior to launch such as QFD, FMEA, DFM, etc., as well as continuous improvement tools such as ongoing Kaizen improvements, Six Sigma and DFSS analyses, appropriate measures at every level, etc.; strong experience in the implementation of the principles of lean manufacturing and capability of fostering a culture of waste elimination and continuous improvement. Experience in precision machining and assembly operations is most desired. Other experience in manufacturing processes that have similar requirements will be considered. The Plant Manager must have proven business acumen coming from experience and education that includes a strong capability to understand income statements, balance sheets, cash flow analysis and budgeting techniques effectively.
