Job DescriptionPolicy Analyst - Data InsightsRole type: Permanent, full-timeLocation: WellingtonSalary range & band: General Salary Range F: $76,463 to $89,215 depending on skills and experienceAbout The Role – Kōrero Mō Te TūrangaWe're looking for a data-savvy Policy Analyst to join our Data Insights team within the Strategy Insights & Evidence directorate of Policy & Trade. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives on using data and evidence to shape policy that supports New Zealand's primary industries.As a Policy Analyst, you will:Analyse economic, trade, market, consumer and business performance data to inform policy developmentIdentify trends and emerging issues using market, consumer, and sector performance data as well as stakeholder insightsDevelop evidence-based, cost-effective policy options for government actionSupport the development of legislative and regulatory instrumentsCollaborate across MPI, with other agencies and with stakeholders to deliver cross-government policy initiatives.About You – MōuYou'll bring strong analytical skills and a passion for using data to drive better policy outcomes. You'll be comfortable working with complex information and translating it into clear, actionable advice.We're especially interested in candidates who have:2–5 years of experience in policy analysis or a similar fieldA tertiary qualification in economics, commerce/business, statistics, data science, business analytics or a related disciplineExperience working with data to inform policy decisionsStrong written and verbal communication skillsA collaborative mindset and ability to work across teams and sectorsFamiliarity with government processes and regulatory systems.About The Team – Mō Tō Mātou RōpūThe Data Insights team provides strategic thinking and policy advice grounded in evidence.
