The research activities of this interdisciplinary department cover areas such as aquatic ecology, cell and organismal biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and technology, animal welfare and zoonotic ecology.Subject area of the position: Microbiology with a focus on biotechnology.Employment type and scope: Employment under the postdoctoral agreement. Full-time for 3 years.Starting date: As agreed.Location (until further notice): Kalmar.Job DescriptionMetals refining produces large amounts of waste that can still contain significant quantities of target metals that are lost to the waste stream during production. The research project will investigate the use of microbes to treat the waste, extract the target metals, and close circuits by utilizing all generated residues.RequirementsA person who has a PhD degree in microbiology or microbial biotechnology, and who received their degree at most three years before the last day of application for this position. The candidate cannot previously have been employed as a post doc for more than a year within the same or adjacent field of study at Linnaeus University.The candidate should have significant experience in metals chemistry, have a high proficiency in written and spoken English, and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group. The following merits will place the candidate at an advantage: experience of working with acidophilic microorganisms, treatment of wastes, bioreactor design, and bioprocess engineering. In addition, a general competence in material science would be an advantage.Assessment criteria In assessing scientific competence, particular emphasis will be placed on the independence, scope, and quality of the applicant’s own research. The postdoctoral researcher must have an excellent ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, as well as strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to work independently. Since the work will be carried out within a research group, great importance will be attached to collaboration skills and flexibility.
