Continuation of employment, while probable, is not guaranteed. This post-doctoral position will work in the Joyner lab to understand genotype-phenotype relationships of the relapsing malaria parasites, Plasmodium cynomolgi and Plasmodium vivax. The individual is expected to oversee the day-to-day management of projects, assist in analysis and interpretation of study data, preparation of grants and associated reports, and lastly, manuscripts for publication. The individual will also have an active role in training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification In PositionMinimum Qualifications: PhD or equivalent and experience in related fields.Preferred Qualifications: Experience with culture and isolation of malaria parasites, genetic manipulation of malaria parasites, next generation sequencing analysis of parasite genomes using long and short-read sequencing approaches, basic laboratory skills including PCR and cloning.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesLearn and design new experimental approaches and proceduresSolve technical problems efficiently and independentlyMaintain a clean and organized work environment; ability to train others effectively and efficiently in the laboratoryGood communication skillsAbility to work independently and as a fully productive, cooperative team memberPhysical DemandsFrequent movement between facilities, occasionally operating heavy equipment, lift more than 40 pounds, standing long periods of time.Is this a Position of Trust?
