The OpportunityAs the Principal Consultant Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW), you will Assist with the implementation of an effective health and safety management system that supports safe work design and fosters a healthy, safe and well workforce. Provide strategic direction and leadership to enhance the DPI health and safety management system with an objective of continuous improvement. Lead the development and implementation of HSW strategies, systems, and programs to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and achieve best practice outcomes. Provide expert advice on the department's obligations in relation to workplace health and safety; and contribute to the organisation's compliance with these obligations. Support business areas to embed departmental HSW standards and procedures with a focus on harm minimisation and continuous improvement by:Assisting in developing, maintaining, and reviewing risk registers, including evaluating and improving control measures.Overseeing and participating in safety audits and inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring relevant learnings are captured and shared.Integrating effective health, safety and risk management processes into operations and work practices.Building strong stakeholder relationships with management, workers, regulators, unions, and contractorsConsulting with stakeholders on safety systems, legislative compliance, and emerging technologies.Supporting organisational change initiatives. where relevant. Promote a positive workplace culture Consulting with staff regarding their health and safety obligations and delegated responsibilities for managing issues specific to their role. Promoting psychosocial health including self-care practices, fostering strong social connections, and creating supportive environments. Educating, leading and mentoring employees to build HSW capability and support accountability across the organisation. Represent business areas in audits, manage recommendations, and provide updates on risks, controls, and corrective actions. Collaborate with HSW colleagues, HR, and other functions to ensure consistent service delivery. Facilitate learning from incident and trend data to improve safety culture and performance. Support disaster and incident responses across the department when available.You may also have - Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline relating to Health and Safety and/or relevant transferable experience in a similar Health and Safety role.
