They will act as an expert source of advice and provide guidance and development to lawyers in the team.About The TeamThe areas of law handled within the Government Insurance and Risk Team include: Litigation (90%)Civil proceedings on behalf of the Crown, Crown corporations and instrumentalities, including:matters before all State and Federal Courts and Tribunalsrepresentation at and advice on dispute resolution proceduresdrafting pleadings, affidavits, and other court documentsappearing as Counsel on interlocutory applications.Undertake litigation work in relation to the following areas of law: personal injuries claimspublic liability claimshistorical child abuse claimsmedical negligence claims.Lawyers should have knowledge of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules, the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002, the Civil Liability Act 2003 and be familiar with the rules of the Federal and High Courts.Advisory (10%)Providing advice, submissions, and correspondence in matters for consideration at Ministerial, Cabinet, or inter-governmental levels.Providing advice in respect to matters arising out of the areas of litigation referred to above, including, but not limited to liability, evidence, quantum settlement, costs or other aspects of matters arising from the carriage of the action.Your key responsibilities Conduct a professional legal practice and undertake the range of legal work completed by the team.When required, provide supervision and guidance to other members of the practice in conduct of legal matters.As required, assist in:the provision of legal training to officers of client departments and Crown Lawpromoting Crown Law services to client departmentsthe provision of specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to other officers within the legal practice groupliaising with officers of government departments, corporations and instrumentalitiesnegotiating skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationshipswriting and communicating succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self-development, including:achievement of CPD pointsparticipation in Crown Law's performance management framework and any feedback processes.Comply at all times with the office standardsApplications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/666268/25Closing Date: Monday, 10th November 2025Occupational group Justice & Legal
