As a Principal Lawyer in our Mental Health Unit, you will provide high-level legal representation, manage a team of skilled professionals, and contribute to the advancement of mental health law practice in an inclusive and supportive workplace. The work is challenging but rewarding - and that is why staff wellbeing and work/life balance are a top priority for us.About The RoleAs the Principal Lawyer in the Mental Health Unit, you will provide expert legal advice, prepare cases, and advocate in court for clients involved in complex criminal law and mental health-related matters. You will manage and supervise a team of legal and administrative professionals, driving performance, fostering skill development, and ensuring operational excellence through coaching, feedback, and training. Your leadership will extend to delivering trauma-informed practices, engaging with clients who have complex needs, and contributing to policy, law reform, and service delivery initiatives.You will also oversee the unit's compliance with professional and corporate responsibilities while proactively promoting Legal Aid Queensland's values of respect, accountability, and social justice.
