This is a fixed-term programme team responsible for transforming Oranga Tamariki's commissioning and investment framework and approach. The Principal Policy Advisor contributes to this work through the provision of high-quality specialist and analytical advice, and participates in, and leads, projects and policy initiatives within the team or across the wider Group or Ministry. The Principal Policy Advisor also provides mentoring and supports the professional development of less experienced advisors.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to work that will bring about meaningful change for Oranga Tamariki, service providers, and the children and young people in our care.Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bringKey requirements of the role include:Highly developed analytical skills and a demonstrated commitment to developing and maintaining specialist skills and knowledge in own area of expertise.A good understanding of policy implementation and the issues likely to impact on it.Ability to produce and recognise high quality policy work and provide peer support and coaching to colleagues. - Project leadership skills.Comprehensive experience at a senior level in the policy development process, and in parliamentary processes and the workings of legislation.Welcomes and values diversity, and contributes to an inclusive working environment where differences are acknowledged and respected.Recognises and understands the circumstances and issues facing Māori in the communities the Ministry works with.Understanding and appreciation of cross cultural issues and concerns, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture.Nōu te rourou | What's in it for youOranga Tamariki offer a step-based remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $147,010 to $162,887 dependant on experience.
