Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as a Principal Spatial Analyst in the Spatial Mapping Unit (SMU) to produce mapping products and source, transform, and analyse spatial data to support land use and infrastructure planning at both regional and local levels. Your proven expert knowledge, experience and understanding of GIS, including map production, data governance, and data transformation will be essential to this role. The SMU will support the development of regional plans across Queensland.Our division is valued for our collaboration with local government, key industry groups and the wider community, ensuring the aspirations of all regional stakeholders are considered.As a Member Of The Team You WillLead and drive spatial analytical rigor to comprehend and interpret complex land, housing, infrastructure, population, and employment information to support land use and infrastructure planning at both regional and local levels.Lead components of the team's program of works (both business as usual and project based) including but not limited to scoping, resourcing and delivery.Scope, deliver, report, and monitor mapping and data requests from customers within and external to the department to deliver high quality outputs and advice under various regular pressures.Implement, maintain and adhere to data governance policies to ensure data is secure, accurate, available, and usableLead the optimal use and application of GIS and Extract Transform Load (ETL) technologies in the team. The Department uses Esri's ArcGIS Pro for authoring content and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal for publishing online content internally, and Safe Software's FME for ETL data processing.Create and maintain effective working relationships with key project stakeholders and data custodians, including but not limited to other state agencies, local governments, infrastructure agencies, industry peak bodies, technical experts and developers.Work collaboratively with senior management, project teams, government agencies and external stakeholders to ensure regional and spatial planning project outcomes are achieved.Prepare quality correspondence, submissions, presentations, briefs, and reports on complex and sensitive issues for the delivery of projects.Provide mentorship, support and share your technical skills with the team and other officers in the agency.Applications to remain current for 12 monthsJob Ad Reference: QLD/665775/25Closing Date: Thursday, 30 October 2025Occupational group Policy & Planning
