In this role, you’ll drive the strategic transformation of a legacy monolithic system into a scalable, cloud-native platform. You will provide technical management, define engineering standards and design enterprise-grade microservices leveraging Spring Boot, REST APIs and Oracle, deployed in AWS using Docker and Kubernetes.This is a hands-on architecture and management position where you’ll shape system design decisions, mentor engineering teams and set the direction for high-performance, secure and reliable software delivery.This role will operate on a hybrid model, with candidates expected to be able and willing to work from our customer's Dublin office at least once a week.Required Experience:10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or principal capacityExpert-level proficiency in Java (Java 11/17) and Spring Boot for microservice developmentProven experience in Oracle database design, optimisation, and integration within distributed systemsRobust track record modernising monolithic or SOAP-based systems into RESTful microservicesDeep knowledge of microservice architecture, domain-driven design (DDD), and event-driven systemsHands-on experience with AWS (ECS, EKS, Lambda, API Gateway) and Docker/KubernetesProficiency with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline) and IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation)Solid comprehension of authentication and authorisation frameworks (OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect)Solid understanding of observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)Key responsibilities & duties include:Architecture & Technical LeadershipDefine and implement the architectural roadmap for decomposing legacy systems into modular, domain-driven microservicesLead the modernization of SOAP-based applications to RESTful, stateless microservices built with Spring Boot and integrated with Oracle databasesEstablish and enforce engineering standards for scalability, security, observability, and cloud readinessPartner with stakeholders across Product, Platform, and DevOps to ensure architectural alignment with business goalsAPI & Service DevelopmentDesign, build, and optimize RESTful APIs following best practices and OpenAPI/Swagger standardsLead transformation from SOAP/XML to REST/JSON for internal and external integrationsEnsure performance, fault tolerance, and high availability across service layersAct as a subject matter expert for Java-based microservices and Oracle data integration patternsCloud & DevOps EnablementArchitect and deploy containerised services using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS ECSImplement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation for repeatable, secure provisioningCollaborate with DevOps to improve CI/CD pipelines, observability and release automationDrive adoption of cloud-native best practices for endurance and cost efficiencyQuality, Performance & SecurityDefine and implement performance benchmarks, monitoring and tuning strategiesPromote TDD, CI/CD, and automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Postman)Implement caching strategies (Redis, Memcached) and optimise database interactionsEnsure compliance with security standards and data protection policiesTeam Leadership & MentorshipProvide hands-on mentorship to senior and mid-level engineersLead design and code reviews, promoting technical excellence and knowledge sharingChampion modern engineering practices, agile methodologies, and continuous improvementCollaborate with senior management to influence technical direction and long-term technology strategyDesirable Experience:Experience designing or integrating API Gateways (AWS API Gateway, Kong, Apigee)Exposure to message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ) or event-driven architecturesExperience with serverless components (AWS Lambda) and data streaming pipelinesRobust collaboration and communication skills, capable of influencing technical direction across teams What’s in it for you: An opportunity to join a fast-growing company  Options for career advancement Learning and development opportunities Flexible working environmentCompetitive salaries based on experience Equal Opportunity Employer:Amach is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit.
