As an Engineer Intern at Meta Reality Labs, you will help design, prototype, and validate next-generation consumer products. You will gain hands-on experience in user-centered design, iterative prototyping, and cross-functional collaboration, developing a comprehensive understanding of the product design process, manufacturing, and validation. Internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long.Product Design Engineer Intern Responsibilities:Brainstorm and design concepts for consumer hardware, balancing performance, function, ergonomics, and aestheticsDevelop and refine 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using NXPrototype and iterate on mechanical modules and systems (e.g., enclosures, closure mechanisms, thermal solutions, dynamic components)Collaborate with industrial designers, user interface teams, and cross-functional engineering teams (electrical, optical, manufacturing, reliability, etc.) to ensure design feasibility and manufacturabilityInteract with vendors and suppliers to produce prototypes and ensure designs are manufacturable at scaleConduct engineering analysis (free body diagrams, weight/tolerance/statistical analysis) and validate designs through data-driven testing (thermal, mechanical, environmental)Assess concepts for user experience, reliability, and gather user feedback to inform design decisionsMinimum Qualifications:Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related fieldExperience with 3D CAD softwareProficiency in prototyping and evaluating mechanical designs (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, etc.)Familiarity with mass production manufacturing methods (injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, CNC)Fundamental knowledge of material properties for plastics and metalsMust obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employmentPreferred Qualifications:Experience in consumer electronic product designKnowledge of optical systems and/or wrist wearable designExperience with simulation analysis (structural, thermal), FEA, DFM, DFA, FA, DOE creation, and/or GD&TExperience with 3D CAD software with NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIAEffective communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsAbout Meta:Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
