SnapshotThe Growth & Discovery Team is the engine responsible for driving massive user and revenue expansion for Gemini across all audiences—consumers, businesses, and developers. Operating across the full user lifecycle, the team executes a comprehensive strategy that spans Acquisition (getting people in), Activation (getting them to their "aha" moment quickly), Retention (making Gemini indispensable through feature discovery and valuable use cases) and Expansion/Monetization (converting engaged users into subscribers). We accomplish this through a combination of in-product funnel optimization, global performance marketing, disciplined experimentation powered by an advanced platform, and the exploration of novel growth loops and distribution channels like Viral Sharing and Emerging Markets, ultimately building the essential systems and infrastructure to ensure scalable, efficient, and AI-powered growth for the entire Gemini ecosystem.About UsArtificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.The RoleThis is a critical role responsible for driving the Generative AI application's subscription business, focusing on a multi-tier freemium model (including Base, Pro, and Premium tiers) and maximizing both Daily Active Users (DAU) and Revenue. The successful candidate will own the product and growth strategy for the application's paid tiers, specifically defining the core value proposition for each tier , implementing contextual upsells , and developing strategies to acquire and retain a loyal, power-user base. This role requires a strategic growth mindset and the ability to make difficult trade-offs regarding feature availability to optimize for both business impact and technical resource allocation.Key responsibilities:Define Tier Value Propositions: Build and clearly articulate the differentiating value propositions for the various subscription tiers (Base, Pro, Premium) to maximize subscription growthDrive Acquisition via Partnerships: Establish a partnership strategy and execute high-priority deals with external partners (e.g., telcos, social media platforms, carriers) to unlock major distribution potentials for the paid tiersOptimize Resource ROI: Enable the maximization of the Hardware:DAU impact by implementing a flexible limit structure and moving expensive, low-penetration features behind paywalls to free up resources for more viral featuresLead Contextual Upsells: Drive incremental subscriptions by defining "power users" and running experiments on new contextual upsells to paywalled features, ensuring an upsell audit is conductedManage Key Promotional Offers: Oversee the strategy to maximize a critical demographic's conversion to the Advanced tier, including the execution of different in-product banners and the status verification processImplement Retention Initiatives: Improve premium feature education and adoption through tailored onboarding experiences for paid users, and define a "likely to churn" signal for personalized win-back offers and notificationsExpand Global Reach: Support the global expansion of the subscription model, including finalizing expansion into new market waves and addressing product discovery issues in those marketsLeverage User Data for Targeting: Partner with Engineering and Legal/Policy teams to explore and execute on using internal account data to appropriately target users for promotional bannersEnhance Brand Perception: Collaborate with Marketing to promote exciting Pro/Premium roadmaps and Go-To-Market (GTM) moments, including expanding a key industry influencer programCoordinate Cross-Product Strategy: Work with internal platform teams on core initiatives such as a shared limit infrastructure and potential new product offerings like premium media creditsAbout YouIn order to set you up for success as a Product Manager within the Growth & Discovery Gemini App team at DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:7+ years of Product Management experience delivering highly successful and innovative products with your fingerprints all over themProven change agent with a history of driving impact.
