You’ll turn regulatory and proprietary upstream oil and gas data into insightful information to help customers make great capital allocation decisions. The role includes creating clear product requirements, partnering with engineering in an agile environment, and shipping features/datasets that deliver value to operators, investors, and analysts. We welcome candidates with strong aptitude and technical skills. Expertise in oil and gas is a requirement for this role. This position is an in-office role at Novi’s HQ office in Austin, TX.Responsibilities:.Support the company strategy by defining the data product vision and roadmap, including implementation details and prioritization.Contribute to the development and execution of Novi’s upstream data product from definition and planning through development, release, enabling product support teams and outcome validation.Collaborate through agile processes (Jira) to develop user stories and requirements grounded in upstream domain knowledge and data-backed market/user insights.Serve as the voice of the user, aligning product decisions with business goals and stakeholder needs.Manage and refine the data backlog, clarifying requirements, balancing priorities, and exploring alternative technical approaches with product and engineering.Partner with Marketing and Sales on go-to-market activities (positioning, demos, training, collateral).Support Sales and Customer Success by addressing client inquiries and creating materials that improve adoption and outcomes.Requirements:Analytical mindset: Interpret complex datasets, troubleshoot product data issues, and translate insights into clear, high-impact work items that improve user experience and product performance.Product collaboration: Experience working with engineering, design, and customer-facing teams to move from problem definition to shipped solutions.Stakeholder communication: Proven ability to write concise specs, present tradeoffs, and facilitate decisions across multiple stakeholders.Upstream focus: Understanding of oil & gas reporting, well types and lifecycle, completions concepts, production profiles/decline behavior, and unconventional development.Broader energy market exposure (plus): Awareness of midstream/downstream and market dynamics/data.Understanding of handling/processing of regulatory data: Experience or demonstrated aptitude to source, data collection processes, and normalize data from state/federal regulatory agencies (e.g., TX RRC, NDIC, NM OCD, OK OCC; BLM/BOEM).Data & modeling literacy (plus): Comfort defining metrics, evaluating model outputs, and supporting forecasting, simulation, or optimization efforts.Tools & skills (preferred):SQL and Python for analysis, collection, and data wranglingJira, Notion, Git/GitHub; database tools (DBeaver, DataGrip)Snowflake/Databricks (or equivalent), Spotfire/Power BI (or equivalent), QGIS/basic GIS conceptsBackground: Bachelor’s in Petroleum/Energy Engineering, Geology/Geoscience, Data/Computer Science, or related STEM preferred. Candidates with equivalent technical capability or subject matter expertise demonstrated through projects, internships, or prior roles are encouraged to apply.Experience level: Open.
