Since 1865, we have been designing, building, and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. We've built over 50% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas!We are now beginning construction on a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030.Read more about the project here!We are currently seeking Project Engineers to join our team of 17 professionals in the Naval Architecture department. This team is responsible for the conceptual design of specialized vessels ranging from icebreakers to passenger ships. The team develops initial vessel concepts during the sales phase and collaborates with design teams to finalize the vessel’s design during the construction phase. The typical length of the initial concept development phase is from a few months to a year.We are looking for several Project Engineers, and we can tailor the role to match your experience, strengths and interests. Depending on your experience, you can take the lead on projects from day one, or grow into the role with us.As a Project Engineer, you will play a central role in both the sales and construction phases of ship projects. Your responsibilities and tasks include: Supporting the sales team with concept design and technical-economic documentation.Developing vessel concepts and defining performance targets.Preparing technical specifications and appendixes as part of the contract materialAfter the contract is made, coordinating projects technically together with the Technical Manager.Maintaining project documentation and monitoring performance targets.Acting as an expert and coordinating on regulatory mattersParticipating in project and design meetings, and supporting inspections and commissioning.To succeed in this role:You hold a Master's degree in maritime engineering or another relevant field.You have at least 2 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry, but, as mentioned, we have senior positions available if you are already a more seasoned professional.You thrive in team environments and have strong communication skills.The following skills are seen as an advantage:Experience in design software, like AutoCAD or NAPA.Experience in naval/stability calculations.Experience in ship system design.Helsinki Shipyard is now in a phase of transformation and growth.
